Discussion:
continuum shells (SC8) in CAE?

Hello,

I would like to use continuum shells in my model but I am quite
confused how to "reach" this element type in ABAQUS CAE. According to
CAE manual, SC-elements are supported and can be used with CAE.
However, if I create a part and try to mesh it, I can't see the
SC-elements as an option.

I think that it would probably work to create ordinary solid elements,
e.g. C3D8, spit out the INP-file and edit the file manually replacing
the *SOLID SECTION with *SHELL SECTION, checking orientation, etc.
However, I have many models to make and it is quite time consuming to
edit the INP-file manually in all cases.

Any ideas/tips?

Thank you all for help.

Cheers,

McEwans.

I do not think abaqus6.4 support sc- elements. you can
write a small program to generate sc-elements from
traditional shell elements.

Using c3d8 elements may not be a good idea, the
orientation may be confusing.
