Hi all. I am doing thermal analysis at the moment and I use the element
type C3D8IT. But the data file say this element type is not supported.
Does anyone know why and which element should I use for thermal
analysis?

Thank you very much for your help.

There is no such element. Try DC3D8, or C3D8T if you're doing a coupled
thermal-structural analysis.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave. Thank you very much for answearing my question. But can DC3D8 be used in coupled thermal-displacement analysis? Because diffusive heat tranfer elements are only used in uncoupled heat transfer analysis? I am sorry if I ask some stupid question. but thank you very much for your help.

You can use DC3D8 in a coupled thermal-displacement analysis if you want to
model a rigid, immobile region, where you only care about the temperature
field. But in general, you should use C3D8T for coupled
thermal-displacement analysis.

Dave

Hi

I think u can also prefer CPE4T element for coupled temperature analysis. Also u can check the benchmark turtorial in ABAQUS documentation which would help you more.check this tutorial too

Coupled temperature-displacement analysis: one-dimensional gap conductance and radiation in bench mark tutorials>heat transfer analysis>

Hi.

You should check ABAQUS documentation first. There are differences in
thermal elements for ABAQUS/Explicit and ABAQUS/Standard.
