Damage evolution for traction-separation law

Hi,

I have a model with traction-separation damage law for cohesive surface and I am using interaction property with damage initiation (maximum stress), evolution (displacement, linear) and stabilization criteria. My model shows damage initiation criteria 1.0 but damage evolution is not showing. I also tried with energy criteria for damage evolution, but no luck!  Can any one help?

Thanks,

Imran

Hi Imran,

A few items to discuss:

- Are you including CSDMG as an output variable so you can quantify damage?
- Is your model converging after the initiation criterion has reached 1.0?

Hi Dan,

Yes I am using CSDMG to quantify damage and also my analysis is converging.

FYI, I looked at the examples done in ABAQUS tutorials related with cohesive surface damages with evaluation criteria. After running couple of example models, none of them showing damage evaluation!

That does seem odd. I have never worked with cohesive surfaces but do have experience with cohesive elements and assumed they worked in a similar fashion. Can you provide the specific Abaqus tutorials you are referring to, maybe I can take a look.

It also seems odd to me. I hope I am doing everything right!
You can check "ABAQUS verification manual" section 1.7.6. I am using ABAQUS/CAE 6.9-EF. Let me know if you get the evolution criteria working right (i.e. decreasing after initiation).

Thanks,

- Imran

Hi Imran/Dan,

have you tied the surfaces in contact pair? you can run your model by adjusting
the surfaces (use adjust parameter to make initial contact) and then run your
model . I think this will solve the problem of damage initiation criterion and
the damage evaluation criterion as well. this worked for me in using cohesive
surface.hope it will work for all..........Please let me know if this works.

thanking you
SAJIB
